So who is Vintage Point. We are a group of talented musicians who share the love of a well written song.

What is it that makes a song “Vintage”? It can represent any number of the best bands material from decades' past. That guitar riff that is instantly recognizable, that back beat that fills the dance floor, or chorus that reminds you of memories gone by. . .

Let us take you back. Launch into the musical memories of your life.

“the songs of any 10 or 20 year period will more accurately reflect what happened then”

We want to play old and new classics that bring you back or maybe send you searching. We play music to dance to first, like CCR, Cheap Trick, Blondie, Marley… but also, to just listen, or sing along with… from Smokey Robinson, to Doobie Brothers, to Dawes.

Vintage Point. From Santa Cruz….. to you.

Steve Jonsson has been singing in Santa Cruz since high school as one of the founding members of the “Rocky Road Band”, focused on 60’s classics, and the harmonies of The Beach Boys. After 5 years of playing some of the best pop music in history, Steve and the others decided to join the New Wave of the 80’s as “The Secrets”. Writing and recording their own material, showcasing at top Bay Area venues, and opening for national touring acts, as diverse as “The Knack” to “Black Flag”. Later he fronted his own original projects, “Food and Logic”, and “My Mistake”, playing with some of the best local musicians of the day. Never losing the need to perform, he had been playing music with his family and sitting in with The Fair Weather Band. In 2016, it was time to rock again, and Vintage Point was born, a true synopsis of his rock musical history.

Ashley Bratrude has a love for music that has followed her throughout her life. She learned to play the piano starting at 9 years old and has sung in choirs from middle school, to high school, and on through college. Graduating from UC Santa Cruz with a major in Sociology and a Minor in Western Art Music, she began her first professional position as a preschool music teacher. Over time, she went on to earn a teaching credential and pursue a career in education, but music still called to her. Taking the plunge, Ashley answered a craigslist ad for a singer in a rock ‘n roll band by the name of “Phat Chants”. That foray onto the stage led to Ashley’s next endeavor, performing as the front woman for “Red Hot and the Sugar Daddies”. She also spent time singing R&B and soul in the progressive funk outfit “Jive Machine”. Now a veteran of our band, Ashley is always excited to be belting out rock ’n roll classics and contemporary gems with Vintage Point.

Over the last 20 years he has played everything from weddings and dance clubs, to ambient jazz at wine tastings. He has played gigs over the years at many resorts on the Monterey Bay, including the Pebble Beach Lodge. His forte is solo piano improvisation with side flavors of blues, funk, rock. He has really homed in on his classic rock chops over the last several years, playing keyboards in various local Santa Cruz rock bands, before joining forces with current bandmates and forming Vintage Point in early 2016.

Grant Foster is from Los Gatos, CA. He started out playing ukelele in elementary school and sang in school performances. Attending the numerous blues jams around the Bay Area and Santa Cruz has provided him with valuable experience playing with a variety of different musicians. He also engaged in drum lessons, but found that bass was his favorite instrument, and especially playing it live with a band, providing the groove, drive and energy that keeps people dancing!
